While it is accepted that planting 10 acres of new woodland will never truly compensate for the loss of an acre of ancient woodland, with its cornucopia of life dwelling in its unique eco-sphere that took hundreds of years to fully establish, there is a requirement to extend the coverage of woodland, wetland and meadows within Harborough district.
Biodiversity Net Gain as defined in the Environment Act 2021 gives us the chance for some joined up thinking and its delivery can be managed to improve the state of biodiversity and wildlife within our district.
By taking a multi-stakeholder approach we believe that real change for the better can be achieved.
